The legacy of healing at AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center La Grange (Formerly Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital) began in 1955, when 12 visionary community leaders made their dream of a local hospital in La Grange a reality. Offering a comprehensive spectrum of advanced healthcare services, the hospital seeks to provide whole-person healing that encompasses body, mind and spirit. Providing world-class care to our service community requires a continuous and significant reinvestment in advanced medical facilities and equipment. The hospital relies on the charitable support of families, businesses and partner organizations to help ensure its ability to provide the best available care to every patient treated.1
My name is Mike Murrill. For the past six months, I’ve been the Administrator of AMITA Health La Grange. In that time, I have been amazed by the number of close connections within the community between many of the service providers and the hospital. The legacy of the hospital is truly one of the community … but, it’s not good enough to stop there and assume we have it all figured out. We must be in the community!
What do I mean by in the community? I have worked in several other communities, both in Chicagoland as well as other parts of the country. I don’t think there are many that do it better than this community at wrapping the local services around its patrons and supporting the entire life continuum. From Helping Hand and Pillars to Beds Plus and Community Nurse Association to Plymouth Place, Community Memorial Foundation and Aging Care Connections, there is a support structure around our community that is made possible by the collaboration of some amazing people. Collaboration, of course, is the mantra of the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, too. This year is its 115th year of collaborating with nine communities and the western suburbs. I am just proud to be part of this work and proud to be part of the WSCCI.
Right now, the WSCCI staff is updating the membership database so that all member information is current for the upcoming Regional Community Directory that will print in July. If you haven’t yet made the decision to invest in this great organization, now is the time. Joining before May 1 ensures your organization will be listed in the directory, which is seen by tens of thousands of residents, business owners and leaders in this region. The investment you’ll make in the community by joining WSCCI is worth it! It’s as easy as clicking here.
Being in the community goes beyond that. In this coming year and beyond, Amita is going to get more engaged with the schools, churches and other community programs that connect us. From engaging the local high schools in the healthcare industry to integrating our church leaders into our leadership development initiatives, all the way to connecting local artists through showcasing their work on the walls of the hospital.
Adventist Health System, who is the parent company of AMITA Health La Grange, has an over 150-year history of treating body, mind and soul; of promoting the health of our communities and wellness for all we come in contact with. This starts with how we take care of ourselves, through walking paths for our associates in the hospital, to high quality, good tasting healthy food in our cafeterias. It is my goal to be active in promoting this mindset to all those we meet and interact with. Because as a healthcare organization, I pledge to take care of you when you walk through our doors, but it is our equal commitment to help keep you well also.
As a member of the WSCCI Board, I am proud to further connect us to our community. Being a member of the WSCCI is a great way to be in the community, of the community.
