• Even if We're Just Golfing in the Dark

Drinks, food, networking and, of course, golfing were all part of a wildly successful night at the 2017 Happy Gilmore Hour and Night Golf. The event took place on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the Meadowlark Golf Course, where attendees enjoyed food from the Chicago subs and soup restaurant, Starship and summer beverages sponsored by Burke Beverage and Catherine’s Community Closet. Members of the WSCCI and Westchester Chamber of Commerce had fun meeting new contacts and expanding their networks during the cocktail hour, then continued the networking with Night Golf at dusk. People golfed in groups of four which increased their connections as they were able to get to know their group members even more.

This was the first year the WSCCI collaborated with another chamber and it was a hit! Close to 50 people from both chambers made valuable business connections. It was the perfect opportunity to connect to more people and also learn about businesses from another fantastic suburb.

This event was attractive because it was loosely structured giving attendees the freedom to mingle freely and with leisure. Brian Doruff, with Merrill Lynch and an event sponsor, originally thought that the event would have consisted of more structure, especially in the early evening. However, he feels it worked out well since this structure provided him with the freedom and ease of talking and meeting new people. In fact, “it was a good combination of new faces and contacts and familiar ones.”

Amanda Sonka, an employee of Republic Bank and a member of the WSCCI, attended the Night Golf portion of the evening and raved about the fun and different night. “It’s something different; [it] adds a fun twist to a rather ‘non-exciting sport,’ if you will,” she says. As a newer member of the WSCCI, Sonka loved that the event provided her with the opportunity to not only meet up with other members but she also “became more aware of what [her] community has to offer in terms of service.” This type of event and collaboration definitely contributes to the local economy in these Chambers’ suburbs.

Both Sonka and Doruff felt that Night Golf was a great event to attend for the networking and connections that took place. It was an event filled with memories and newfound relationships. It is exciting to see the continuous growth of this event and is highly recommended by many that if you couldn’t make it this year, it’s a great opportunity and event to attend next year. Of course, we want to extend a huge thanks to all our sponsors Also a big thank you to all of our fantastic sponsors this year:  Burke Beverage, Inc., Cook County Commissioner Jeffrey R.
