History
The Village of Willow Springs was incorporated in 1892, making it one of the oldest of the Chamber's communities; however, Willow Springs is the newest to join the seven-community coalition. The Village is named for a site above the south bank of the Illinois-Michigan Canal, where a spring rose from the ground in front of a willow tree. Willow Springs is blessed with extensive bike trails and many acres of land dedicated as County Forest Preserves. This lovely community offers a landscape of floodplain, terrace, bluff top and forested uplands. The construction of the Illinois-Michigan Canal, between 1836 and 1848, was the decisive factor influencing the development of Willow Springs. Settlers and canal workers were attracted to the area by the economic opportunities. Many decided to stay after the completion of the canal and the town was born.
The people of this community pride themselves on planned progress and pleasant living, as they continue to preserve the small-town charm. Willow Springs is blessed with extensive bike trails and many acres of land dedicated as County Forest Preserves. This lovely community offers a landscape of floodplain and terrace, as well as bluff top and forested uplands.
Willow Springs remains committed to promoting business growth, maintaining modern and responsive police and fire services, and protecting a safe environment for its residents. The final phase of the Village Town Center, developed in the heart of Willow Springs, includes plans for retail shops and restaurants to compliment it existing businesses, modern Village Hall, METRA train station and up-scale townhouses.
Willow Springs is truly a community in every sense of the word. People are drawn to the Village to enjoy an exceptional lifestyle, a community that's open to new ideas, family values, people and businesses. It is an excellent choice for developers, prospective businesses, entrepreneurs and new residents.
