History

The Village of La Grange Park, incorporated in 1892, is known as the Village of Roses - a theme which is blended into a variety of annual events, including a spring rose show. La Grange Park is primarily a residential community that is bounded on two sides by the Cook County Forest Preserve. The Forest Preserve provides residents with numerous nature and recreational opportunities, including providing easy access to the 6.5 mile Salt Creek bicycle trail.

La Grange Park has two unique business districts: along 31st Street, and near the Village Market Shopping Center on La Grange Road. Each district features a variety of businesses, including restaurants, antique/resale shops, hardware store, dry cleaners, video store, flower shop, jewelry store, gift shop, health club and an assortment of professionals such as CPAs, Realtors and medical offices.

The community hosts a variety of activities each year, including a weekly farmers market through the summer and an annual rose show. In 2003, La Grange Park was awarded the State of Illinois' Governor's Hometown Award primarily for the outstanding contributions that community volunteers made to the Party in the Park.

La Grange Park takes pride in its wide diversity of housing stock. Most homes are older and vary widely in style. There are Victorians, four-squares, split-entry ranches, two-stories and Georgians, in addition to a variety of condominiums, townhouses and apartments. La Grange Park is also home to two upscale independent living facilities that provide a variety of services and programs for older adults.

La Grange Park offers an excellent school system. In addition, it has close proximity to the METRA BNSF Commuter Line, thus providing easy access to downtown Chicago. The high quality of life in la Grange Park makes it a desirable place to call home and to establish a successful business.
