History

Situated upon rolling and wooded terrain, the Village of Indian Head Park is a quiet residential community offering a balanced mix of housing choices including single family residences, townhomes, condominiums and rental units.

Although not incorporated until 1959, the land area now known as Indian Head Park was very active during the early settlement of northern Illinois. Village historical documents reference a log hotel on Wolf Road (1833), the first school house in Lyons Township (1834) and the organization of the Lyonsville Congregational Church (1843). Plainfield Road, once an indian trail, was the route of a stage coach line extending from Chicago to Ottawa at the Illinois River. The area was inhabited by the Potawatamie Indian tribe until government land grants led to the relocation of the tribe to a reservation in Iowa.

Today, life in Indian Head Park offers many attributes of "small town" living, with friendly neighbors, an active citizenry, and deep civic pride.

The town's Village board oversees plans to bring additional commercial and housing developments in the area, including development of a town center in the "triangle", and a corollary economic and commercial area called "Southtown." The Village board has been successful in developing the Crossroads Plaza, which includes a restaurant, card & gist shop, Tire and Lube shop, and hair salon.
